Mary Ann Stepan, 63, of West Union and formerly of Alpha and Waucoma, died Friday, March 16, 2001

A funeral mass was held Monday, March 19 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Name Catholic Church in West Union, with Rev. Dale Rausch as Celebrant.

Interment was in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, West Union.

Pallbearers were Michael and Brian Folkers, Ray Bob, Daniel and Cory Stepan and Jay Underwood. Honorary pallbearers were her grandchildren.

Mary Ann Stepan was born March 24, 1937 in New Hampton, the daughter of Eldon and Lenora (Kobliska) Folkers.

She graduated from St. Bernard's Catholic School, Alta Vista.

On Oct. 24, 1955 she was united in marriage to Edward Stepan.

They farmed in the Sumner, Readlyn and Alpha areas before moving to West Union in 1992.

Mary Ann enjoyed cooking, flower gardening, collecting salt and pepper shakers, selling Watkins products and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her husband, Edward; 9 sons: Randy (Marilyn) Stepan and Mark (Raphael) Stepan, all of West Union; Gerald (Tammy) Stepan of Muskogee, Okla.; Garold Stepan of Janesville, Wisc., Robert (Connie) Stepan of Creston, Neb.; David (Kathy) Stepan of Sumner; Edward and (Debra) Stepan of San Angelo, Texas and Wayne Stephan of Texas and 4 daughters: Lanet (Keith) Suhr of Fredericksburg; Christie Mitchell of Hawkeye; Ann (Justin) Knudtson of Waterloo and Carol Stepan of Cedar Falls. Additional survivors include 16 grandchildren; 3 brothers: Dennis Folkers of Oelwein; Dean and Doug Folkers, both of Alta Vista; 2 sisters, Jeanette Underwood of Waterloo and Audrey Fries of Indiana.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by a son, Ronald; 2 grandchildren, Emily Stepan and Gerald Stepan, Jr., her parents and daughter-in-law, DeLois Stepan.
