Allan Leo Sloan

Allan Sloan, 72, of Waucoma, died June 28, 2001 at the New Hampton Care Center.

Funeral Mass was held July 2 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Waucoma with Rev. Marvin Salz officiating. Lector was Diane Neuzil.

Pallbearers were Rick Bodensteiner, John Paul Neuzil, Patrick Neuzil, Jeff Frieden, Danny Huber, Rod Collins, Paul Hauer and Jim Moss.

Interment was in St. Mary's Cemetery in Waucoma, with arrangements by Burnham-Wood Funeral Home of West Union.

Allan Leo Sloan was born Aug. 31, 1928 in Fairbank, Iowa to Leo and Fidellis (Woods) Sloan.

He graduated from Waucoma High School in 1946. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy Aug. 1946 and served his country until Aug. 1949. He then farmed near Waucoma for many years and also drove a school bus for the Turkey Valley School District for 30 years before retiring in 1993. He continued living on the farm with his mother until she died in 1994.

In Aug. 2000, he entered the New Hampton Care Center.

Allan enjoyed attending the American Legion and V.F.W. meetings, reading and being with his family

Survivors include 4 sisters: Mary (Edmund) Hauer of St. Lucas; Gerri Bodensteiner of Osage; Ruth (John) Neuzil of Charles City and Jane (Leo) Huber of Davenport; 2 brothers, John (Maggie) Sloan of Waucoma and David (Bernie) Sloan of Scottsdale, Ariz., and several nieces and nephews.

Allan was preceded in death by his parents.
