DANIEL GOETZ DIES

Thursday night of last week one of our oldest citizens in point of residence passed from this life at his home on Pleasant street.

Daniel Goetz was born in Alsace Lorraine, then a French province, June 30, 1850, and died at his home in Elgin, January 28, 1921, at the age of seventy years, seven months and twenty-five days.

When a lad of seventeen he came to America, coming to Elgin, which has been his home for all these years.

He was married to Mary Jacobs at Elkader, January 8, 1883, and to them was born one daughter Lillie, who is now at home.

Most of his life was spent in farming and for the last number of years he has been satisfied to live contentedly at his home, taking care of a large plot of ground from which he made a living for his family and himself. He was industrious and of a jovial disposition that made him many friends and his passing will be regretted by the many that have known him for years.

Mr. Goetz was one of a family of seven children, six boys and one girl. His sister came to this country with him. She was married to Mr. Geiser of Mason City, and died at her home in Mason City some two years ago. Mr. Goetz was one of the last two of the family, all having preceded him in death except one brother in the old country.

Mr. Goetz is survived by his wife and daughter and one grand-daughter together with many relatives and friends.

The funeral services were held from the Baptist church Sunday afternoon, Rev. Wedel presiding, and a large number of friends and old time acquaintances were in attendance to pay a last sad tribute of respect. Interment was made in the Elgin cemetery.
