William H. Steffans

Funeral services for William H. Steffans were held Saturday, May 3, at 1:30 p.m. at the Clermont Funeral Chapel, Verdon Swenson was the officiating Pastor, with Patricia Butikofer as the organist. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in God's Acres Cemetery.

William Henry Steffans, son of Richard and Mary Ann (Teepe) Steffans, was born December 20, 1900 at Castalia. He died Tuesday, April 29, 1986 at the Elkader Care Center, Elkader.

He attended the Clermont Schools. On October 8, 1925, he married LaSena Krueger in Clermont. The couple had one son, Donald.

Bill had worked as a farm hand in the Elgin area. From 1929 to 1970 he farmed with his brother, Phil in the Clermont area. He retired in 1970 and moved to Clermont.

He is preceded in death by his wife, LaSena, who died in 1936, a grandson, Gary Lee, 2 brothers, Andrew and Frank and a sister, Marguerite Steffans.

Surviving is his son, Donald (Wilma) of Clermont; 5 grandchildren, Ruth Ann Larson, Donald Dean Steffans, Gregory Lee Steffans, Roger Lee Steffans and Richard Walter Steffans; 3 great grandchildren, Melissa and Michael Steffans and Martin Larson; a brother, Phillip of Clermont and a sister, Barbara LaVelle of Postville.

Casket bearers were Donald D., Roger, Gregory and Richard Steffans, Mike Tessmer and Jerry Mitts.
