Funeral services for Ruth Starkey were held Tuesday, July 2 at 10:30 a.m. at the Clermont Funeral Chapel. The Rev. K. G. Rumppe officiated. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in God's Acres Cemetery. Casket bearers were Norbert Baltes, Robert Sieleman, Henry Follett and Laverne Hyde.

Ella Ruth Starkey, daughter of Charles and Gertrude (Learn) Anderson, was born July 19, 1892 in Clermont Township, Fayette County, IA. She died June 29, 1985 at the Good Samaritan Center in West Union.

She graduated from the Clermont High School in 1911 and attended Upper Iowa University at Fayette. She taught in the rural schools in the Clermont area for 11 years and in the summer, clerked in the H. A. Lubke General Store in Clermont.

On February 5, 1930 she married William Starkey. They farmed west of Clermont and took care of Ruth's parents for many years. Her mother died in 1939 and her husband William died June 22, 1944. She and her father moved to Clermont where she cared for him until his death in 1947. In 1963 she went to live with her sister, Beulah, and in 1975 became a resident of the Good Samaritan Center in West Union.

She is preceded in death by her husband, 3 brothers, Elmer, Herbert and Lester, and a sister, Effie House (Mrs. H. H.)

Surviving are 2 sisters, Myrtle Learn of the Good Samaritan Center in West Union and Beulah Lubke (Mrs. H. A.) of Clermont.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Elgin and a past member of its Women's Association. She had been a member of the Clermont Study Club and Past Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star in Clermont.
