Lamphiere, Lyman M. 1831-1917

Lyman M. Lamphiere was born in New York, Dec. 9, 1831, and died in Wadena, Jan. 26th, 1917, aged 86 years and 15 days.

He was united in marriage to Miss Betsy J. Page in Wisconsin, Oct. 28, 1855 and in the year 1859 they came to Iowa and in about two years settled on the farm three miles west of Volga.

To this union were born eleven children, Ida of Oelwein, Elmer of Garber, Emelin of Oelwein, Franklin of Carthage, S. D., Mary of Independence, Henry of Wadena, Warren of Harold, S.D., Austin of Clermont, Morris of Osborne, Oscar of Wadena, Julia of Wadena, all of whom are still living and were here at his bed side during his illness.

He was converted and joined the United Brethren church in the early sixties and was a faithful Pillar in the church and the church members. Moving away, he afterwards joined the Christian church at the Bailey school house.

He leaves to mourn his departure eleven children, forty-one grand children, nine great grand children and a host of friends and neighbors. The funeral was held at the Union church at Wadena by Rev. J.S. Moore from the text found in St. John 11:25-26 and the remains were laid to rest in the Volga City Cemetery until the Ressurrection of the Just.
