Dorothy Marie Schaer

Funeral services for Dorothy Schaer, 43, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 9 at the First Baptist Church, Elgin. The Rev. Norman Miller officiated. Burial was at the Elgin Cemetery.

Dorothy Marie Schaer, the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Jacob) Schaer, was born in her parents' farm home July 27, 1940. She died Thursday, June 7, 1984 following a long illness.

Dorothy was a secretary-bookkeeper in Postville for 26 years. She worked for the Turner Insurance Co., Postville Telephone Co. and the Frankville and Gunder Cheese factories. A special celebration was held last summer to recognize her 25 years of service to these companies.

Her early years of education were at the Lime Kiln School. She then attended public school in Elgin, where she graduated from high school in 1958 as a member of Valley's first graduating class.

She was baptized May 27, 1951 by the Rev. Arthur Itterman at the First Baptist Church, Elgin. She was an active member of the church throughout her life, serving as youth group leader, choir member, Sunday School secretary and in various other activities.

Surviving are her parents, John and Elizabeth Schaer of Elgin; 2 sisters, Marilyn Schaer of Wheaton, IL and Mrs. Marcos (Jean) Orellana of Mission Viejo, CA; 2 nieces, Valerie and Jamie Orellana, as well as many relatives and friends.
