The death of Elias Scothorn occurred at the family residence four miles West of Oelwein February 28, 1905, after a short illness of pneumonia. The funeral was held at the residence Thursday afternoon, Rev. J. R. A. Hanner, pastor of Grace M. E. church of this city conducting the services and the Ladies Quartette of the church providing music.

Elias Scothorn was born October 7, 1835 in Washington County, Pennsylvania. In 1839 he came with his parents to Indiana and on February 25, 1858 he was united in marriage to Miss Almina/Almira Wetherbee. To this union three children were born, two sons and one daughter, all whom live to mourn the loss of a kind and loving father, and were with him in his last illness. His wife preceded him to the other world, June 2, 1895. In 1861 Mr. Scothorn and wife united with the Baptist church, and in that faith he died. He had been a resident of this vicinity a long time, coming here over forty years ago, and his home will be remembered as a hospitable one, where strangers were always welcomed as well as friends. The large number of friends who attended the last services was evidence of the high esteem in which Mr. Scothorn was held by his old neighbors and friends. His daughter, Delia, has kept house for him for a number of years, his son George is a resident of Minnesota, and the other son, L. S., is a well known resident of this vicinity. Sympathy is extended to them in their bereavement.
