A Memorial Funeral Mass for Richard Bollman was held Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, at 11 a.m. in St. Peter's Catholic Church in Clermont, Iowa. Father Paul Ouderkirk officated. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Clermont was in charge of arrangements. Inurnment will take place in Bloomfield Cemetery, Castalia, Iowa, at a later date.
Richard Vives Bollman, the son of Vives Garnet and Sada (Richards) Bollman, was born March 16, 1931, in the Postville Hospital at Postville, IA. He passed away Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001, in the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center at Marshalltown, Iowa. He had reached the age of 69 years, 10 months, and 28 days.
He attended the Castalia Elementary School and was graduated from Postville High School in 1949. On June 16, 1951, he was married to Mary Theresa Oligschlaeger at Martinsburg, Missouri. To this union 6 children were born. Richard was employed at Quaker Oats in Cedar Rapids for 17 years and then worked for Longyear Drilling Company in Wisconsin. He returned to the Clermont area where he worked with his son, Michael, for ten years, in Mike's Outdoor Equipment in West Union.
Richard served in the US Air Force during the Korean War. He was stationed in Japan for 18 months.
Richard was interested in photography and spent time throughout his life taking pictures. He enjoyed wood working and built boxes of various sizes, for tools or for storage, engraving his name on many of them. He liked to camp and hunt but he especially enjoyed fishing. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren when they came to visit.
He is survived by his wife, Mary, of Elgin, Iowa, 3 sons, Michael Richard Bollman of Clermont, Robert Eugene Bollman of Elgin, Paul Kenneth Bollman of Waterloo, 2 daughters, Vivian Marie (Ted) Thompson of Volga, Iowa, and JoAnn Louise (Jeff) Gillispie of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, 10 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and a sister, Mildred Hawk of Mossyrock, Washington.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a son, John Vives Bollman, who died in 1970, a brother, Donald Bollman, who died in infancy, and a sister, Gertrude Floody.
