Marie Butikofer Dies At Age 102

Services for Marie Butikofer, 102, Elgin, were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 30, at Apostolic Christian Church, Elgin, with interment in the church cemetery, rural Elgin. Muehlethaler Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Marie Butikofer died Friday, Nov. 27, in the Good Samaritan Home, West Union.

Marie (Schupbach) Butikofer was born May 5, 1890 near Elgin to Fred and Elizabeth (Grimm) Schupbach. She was raised and educated in the area attending rural schools. She was baptized at the Apostolic Christian Church in 1904. She taught school in the Cherry Valley School.

Marie was united in marriage to Albert Butikofer in 1914 at the Apostolic Church. Ten children were born to this union. They farmed in the Elgin area for many years. Albert died in 1961. Marie remained on the farm until 1966 when she moved into Elgin. For the last 2 years she had lived in the Good Samaritan Home.

She was a lifetime member of the Apostolic Christian Church and was active in world relief.

She was preceded in death by her husband, 2 daughters, 4 grandchildren, 3 brothers, 1 sister, and her parents.

Marie Butikofer is survived by 6 sons: Harry, Paul, Bert and Albert, all of Elgin, Iowa; Reuben of Clermont, Iowa; William of Gridley, Illinois; 2 daughters, Mrs. Ruth Wiegand of Kempton, Illinois and Mrs. Shirley Nester of Rock Rapids; 35 grandchildren; 50 great grandchildren, and one great granddaughter.
