Funeral service for Mrs. Joe Baker was held Monday, Jan. 20, 1992, 11 a.m. in the East Clermont Lutheran church, rural Clermont. The Rev. James Hougen officiated, Lois Dummermuth accompanied Arthur and Clarence Amundson who sang duets. The Schutte Funeral Service, Clermont, was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Alvira Henrietta Baker, daughter of Henry and Tilda (Loftsgard) Amundson, was born November 20, 1912, in Clayton County, near Elgin, IA. She died Friday, Jan. 17, 1992 at her home in Fayette County, near Clermont, at the age of 79.
She was baptized and confirmed in the East Clermont Lutheran Church and attended the Brorby Country School near her home. On October 14, 1937, Alvira was married to Joe Baker in the St. Olaf Parsonage. To this union 5 sons were born. They farmed in Clayton County and then retired to their home west of Clermont.
Alvira enjoyed making quilts for her family and friends and working in her flower beds. In her later years, she became a very successful Amway distributor.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Joe, who died in 1975, and a grandson, Shane Baker.
Surviving are her 5 sons: Justin "Skip" (Beverly) Baker of Clermont, Lonnie (Mary) Baker of Ely, Dr. Dan (Vicki) Baker of Falls Church, VA, Warren Baker and Cornel(Kim) Baker all of Clermont; 13 grandchildren: Steven (Terri) Baker, Vicki (Kelly) Wallander, Cindi (Bill) Thias and Michael (Diane) Baker; Pam Miller, Dean (Julie)Miller and Randy Miller; Meca Baker, Sara Baker, John, Justin, Jean and Jaci Spies; 13 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; a brother, Harry Amundson of Clermont and a special friend, Eunice Halvorson of Clermont.
Alvira Baker was a member of the East Clermont Lutheran Church and the Women of the ELCA.
Casket bearers were Steven and Michael Baker, Kelly Wallander, Bill Thias, Dean and Randy Miller.
