Column sixThere are a few people in Fayette and many that will remember Charles Austin Gray who was born in Fayette April 5, 1860, the only child of Joseph D. and Lucy M. Gray. The Waterville, Minn., gives the following account of his death. "On the evening of November 15th Charles Gray had been looking after his auditorium about eleven o'clock he left to get a cigar and evidently feeling sick hurried home and telephoned for his wife but was unconscious when she arrived fifteen minutes later and died in half an hour." His father died in Fayette in 1870 in the same manner as his son and his mother died in 1891 of heart trouble. Charles began the study of drugs after which he attended Shattuck school at Fairbank, also attended Upper Iowa University. He went to Waterville in 1877 and worked about a year for L. Z. Rogers, then went to Fairbault, returning to Waterville in 1880 and bought out Mr. Rogers drug store, where he has been in business for himself until a few years ago when he sold out and retired from active business.
