ROY C. ORTNER (1922-2012)

OELWEIN — Roy Charles Ortner, 89, of Oelwein,Iowa died Friday, March 30, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, Iowa.
He was born Sept. 21, 1922, in Waterloo,Iowa son of Casper and Clara Kurtz Ortner. He married Dolores Walsh on Sept. 28, 1968, in Chicago, Illinois.
Mr. Ortner graduated from Dunkerton High School, attended Loras College, and graduated from St. Ambrose University. He was a teacher at St. Patrick’s High School, Chicago, then worked for the Department of Labor in Chicago. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Survived by: his wife; three brothers, Ronald of Marshfield, Wis., Max of Waterloo, Iowa and Victor of Independence, Iowa; three sisters-in-law, Milly Ortner of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Marcie Ortner of Independence, Iowa, and Doris Brown of Littleton, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by: four brothers, Leo, Eugene, Hugh and Dennis; a sister Marguerite Schmitt; two sisters-in-law, Pattie and Ann Ortner; and a brother-in-law, Richard Schmitt.
Services: 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oelwein, with burial in Barclay Cemetery, rural Dunkerton, Iowa. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Geilenfeld Funeral Home, Oelwein, Iowa.
