Oelwein Daily Register July 30, 1946, Obituary from Maynard: Edward Arp, son of Mr and Mrs Joachim Arp, was born June 12, 1880 at Oneida township, Tama County, Iowa. He attended the Oneida township schools.

For a number of years, he was a farmer and a mail carrier. He also was a stock buyer. On March 14, 1906, he married Bertha Nessler in Bonner township, Benton County. They had 12 children, three of whom preceded him in death, twin daughters at birth and a son, Harry, September 2, 1936.

Mr and Mrs Arp began housekeeping on a farm in Oneida township, where they lived for a number of years. In 1920, they came to Maynard and settled on a farm northeast of town where they lived for the past 26 years. For six years, he acted as trustee of the township and also served on the township AAA. He drove a school bus for several years.

Mr Arp had always enjoyed good helath. On Wednesday afternoon, after returning from Oelwein, he suffered a heart attack and died at the age of 66 years, one month and 12 days.

He is survived by his nine children: Fred, at home; William of Fayette; Edward Jr of Muscatine; Mrs Gladys Bigelow of Hazleton, IA; Helen, Evelyn and Betty Jean, at home; Mrs. Bernice Lehniger of Maynard and Mrs Bessie Steffen of Oelwein. He also leaves eight grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Theresa Jebe of Dysart, IA.

Funeral servces were held at the home on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. The Reverend H. F. Hein officiated. Pallbearers were George Buenneke, H.M. Brownell, John Meyer, A.M. and John Gantenbein, E.L. Clegg, Isaac Paul and Shirley Butts. Burial was in the Long Grove Cemetery, Maynard, Fayette, Iowa.

Edward Arp's parents were Joachim Fredrich Arp (born March 1842 at Barsbek, Plon, Schleiswig-Holstein, Germany, died October 11, 1903 Belle Plaine, Benton, Iowa) and Katharina Stoltenberg (born November 13, 1846 Schleiswig-Holstein, Germany, died October 31, 1927 Oneida, Tama, Iowa).

Edward's five siblings were:
Gustave Arp (born 1874 Tama, IA, died unknown)
Herman (born September 21, 1875 east of Clutier, Oneida, Tama, IA, married Anna M Jacobi September 18, 1907 Tama, IA, died July 3, 1930 Clutier, Tama, IA);
Amelie (born August 23, 1877 Tama, IA, married Peter Tams February 23, 1900 Tama, IA, died April 23, 1938 Clutier, Tama, IA);
Frederick Arp (born 1884 Tama, IA) and
Theresa (born January 10, 1890 Tama, IA, married Jurgen Frederick Jebe October 1, 1908 Dysart, Tama, IA, died February 11, 1969 Waterloo, Black Hawk, IA).

Edward and Bertha's twelve children were:
Frederick, Katrina and Dora (twins), William, Charles Edward, Gladys Arlene, Helen, Evelyn Bertha, Harry, Berniece Delores, Bessie Geraldine and Betty Jean.

1885: Henry Ruhl 25, Joachima Arp 42, Catharina Arp 38, Gustave Arp 11, Herrman Arp 9, Emilie Arp 7, Eduard Arp 5, Frederick Arp 1.

1895: Edward Arp, age 15.

1900: living with his sister Emilie (Amelia) and her husband: Peter Tams 25, Emelie Tams 22, Edward Arp 20.

1905: living with his mother (father had passed away) and sister Theresa.

1910: Edward Arp 30, Bertha Arp 25, Freddie Arp 2, Willie Arp 1 1/12, Mary Carstensen 34.

1915: Ed is a farmer who is buying his farm: Edward Arp age 36.

1920: Ed is renting: Edward Arp 39, Bertha Arp 38, Frederick Arp 12, William Arp 10, Edward Arp 9, Gladys Arp 6, Helen Arp 5, Evelyn Arp 4[4 6/12], Harry Arp 1 year 9 months.
