Funeral services for Thelma Olava Schroeder, age 100, of Calmar, Iowa were held Friday, January 13 at 11:00 at the Calmar Lutheran Church with Rev. Patricia Shaw presiding. Burial was in the Calmar Lutheran Church Cemetery in Calmar, Iowa. Schluter-Balik Funeral Home assisted the family with the arrangements.

Thelma Olava, daughter of Andrew and Johannah (Bergerson) Mosby, was born August 3, 1911 in Eldorado, Iowa. Thelma graduated from the Ossian High School in 1929. She was united in marriage to Elliott Schroeder on January 13, 1934 in Decorah, Iowa. They moved to Postville, Iowa where Thelma was a homemaker and raised her children. She also worked as a waitress at the Blue Arrow, Rima's Cafe and Grubb's Cafe, along with working at Harold Schroeder's Grocery Store and for the State Liquor Store. They moved to Sumner, Iowa where she worked at the Pickering Grocery Store. In 1977, they moved to Calmar, Iowa where they retired. Thelma and Elliott both enjoyed going to their trailer at Harpers Ferry, Iowa where they loved to fish for crappies. Thelma enjoyed gardening and her flower beds. She was an active member of the Calmar Senior Citizens and the Calmar Lutheran Church.

Thelma Olava Schroeder died on Monday, January 9, 2012 at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home in Decorah, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elliott in March of 1994; her son-in-law, Richard Cayton in March of 2001; a granddaughter-in-law, Jacquelyn Cayton in January 2007, and two brothers Elmer Mosby and William Mosby.

Thelma Schroeder is survived by her daughter, Patricia Cayton of Vinton, Iowa; one son, Robert (Olga) Schroeder of Scottsdale, Arizona; nine grandchildren, Mark (Tracy) Cayton, Denise (Tom) Mettner, Kevin (Betty) Cayton, Diana Cayton, James (Kris) Cayton, Tracy (Scott) Lange, Jay (Heidi) Schroeder, Randy (Kathleen) Schroeder, and Sandra (Clinton) Starr, along with twenty-six great-grandchildren and thirty-one great-great grandchildren.
