Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Edith Benita Paulson, age 92, of Harpers Ferry, Iowa, formerly of Clermont, Iowa passed away Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Thornton Manor in Lansing, Iowa. A Celebration of Life Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 24, 2012 at the West Clermont Lutheran Church, Clermont, Iowa with Interment in God's Acres Cemetery in Clermont, Iowa. Grau Funeral Home of Clermont, Iowa is in charge of arrangements.
Edith Benita, was born March 12, 1919 in Pleasant Township, Winneshiek County, Iowa to Clark G. and Betsy (Ottney) Tillinghast. She was baptized and confirmed at the First Lutheran Church in Decorah, Iowa. Edith was united in marriage with Truman Arthur Paulson on April 29, 1943 at the First Lutheran Church in Decorah, Iowa.
She was an accomplished pianist. Prior to her marriage she played the piano in an orchestra led by Ray Halverson. After her marriage she played for the Sunday School at the First Lutheran Church in Decorah and for the Harpers Ferry Church. Edith was a person of strong faith. Edie enjoyed playing piano at several honky tonks along the Mississippi River. She also enjoyed reading and fishing.
Edith was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Truman who died on February 28, 1998; three brothers, Ray Tillinghast, Syrille Tillinghast, and George Tillinghast; and two sisters, Maybelle Derhammer and Jennie Raftshol.
She is survived by her five children: Marilyn Ann Paulson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Richard (Peggy) Paulson of Stewartville, Minnesota, George (Candy) Paulson of Springville, Iowa, Roberta (Mark) Galchutt of Clemmons, North Carolina, and Sonja (Rev.David) Johnson of Arcadia, Wisconsin; six grandchildren, Paula (Kirk) Twelmeyer of Des Moines, Iowa, Kjersti Paulson of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, Lance (Shellie) Kamaus of Lisbon, Iowa, Dane Paulson of Minnetonka, Minnesota, Andrew Galchutt of Clemmons, North Carolina, and Betsy Galchutt of Raleigh, North Carolina; and five great-grandchildren, Brett and Kyle Twelmeyer and Cohen, Carew, and Kinsley Jo Kamaus.
