Life Sketch of Halsten Groth
Halsten Groth, son of Johannes and Gure Groth, was born on Oct. 20, 1867 and died Nov. 14, 1948, at the age of 81 years. For the past few years he had been making his home with the Mrs. Louisa Martie family east of Elgin. He was ill just a little over a week.Mr. Groth was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church. He spent practically all his life in the Elgin community working mainly as a farm laborer.
His parents, four brothers and three sisters preceded him in death. Only surviving members of the family are his sister, Sophie and brother, Martin, both of Clermont.
Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. A.O. Nesset, were held at the Muehlethaler funeral home at Elgin on Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 16, and burial was made in the Houg cemetery east of Elgin. Pall bearers were Nickoli Martie, Fred Martie, Halvor Aason, Carl Halverson, Ole Reierson and Joe Wander. Out of town relatives attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Jens Halverson and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Groth of Decorah.
