Mrs. Marie Smith 1848-1928

SMITH, KASBOLM, MCQUEEN, DEMPSEY

Mrs. Marie Smith passed away Friday,
January 13, 1928, at the home of
her daughter, Mrs. Ben McQueen, after
a long illness.
Marie Sophia Kashohm was the daughter
of Frederick and Sophia Kasbolm.
Was born October 15, 1848 at
Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany. On
October 22, 1872 she came to America
and settled at Waverly, Iowa. A year
later she was united in marriage to
Carl Smith. He proceeded her in
death twenty-four years ago. Their
home was blessed with seven children.
They are Mrs. Ben McQueen
and Mrs. J. T. Dempsey of Oelwein,
Iowa, Fred of Hazleton, North Dakota,
Ed of Jesnp, Iowa, Herman of
Hawkeye, Iowa, and Art of Oelwein,
Iowa, one son proceeding her in
death. There are also twenty-four
grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
These with other relatives
and friends are left to mourn the loss
of a loving mother and grandmother.
She joined the Evangelical church of
which she was a faithful member.
She was a charitable woman and did
a great deal to help others.
A short funeral service was held at
the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ben
McQueen. Sunday noon, Rev. A. W.
Henke reading the services. The body
was taken to Waverly aud the funeral
was held from the Evangelical
church at'three o'clock, Reverend W.
C. Lang of Cedar Falls officiating.
Burial was made in Harlington Cemetery.
