HAWKEYE — Clay Stanley Ferrell
was born Dec. 27, 1895 at
Spencer, W Va., the son of George
and Elizabeth Laughlin Ferrell.
He enlisted in the army at the
age of 21 a Russellville, Ark., in
the First World War. He was a
member of the AEF, sailed from
the United States Jan. 24, 1918,
and arrived at LaHarve, France.
Feb. 6, 1918. He received an hon-
orable discharge at Camp Pike,
Ark., June 13, 1919. He worked in
construction work which carried
him throughout every state
except California and Oregon. In
1941 and 1942 he helped construct
the Alcan Highway in Alaska.
After Alaska he and his family
moved to Missouri where he worked
until 1950 when they moved to
Hawkeye. He was a member of
the American Legion post 312 in
Hawkeye.
A lung was removed in March.
1954 in the Veterans' hospital at
fowa City. His health made it impossible
for him to work. He died
at his home Oct. 11.
He is survived by his wife, Mabel,
and daughter Joyce, who
teaches at Central City; two sisters.

Nichols, Spencer, W. Va.: three
brothers, Smith Ferrell. Parkersburg,
W. Va., Rex Ferrell, Oklahoma
City, Okla., and John Ferrell.
Paron, Ark. His parents preceded
him in death.

Information from death notice
"Survivors include his wife, the former
Mabel Parker of Hawkeye."
"The Ferrels came to Hawkeye four
years ago from Moberly, MO. He was
employed with the Dusenberg
construction company of Clear Lake
before his illness several months ago.
