Funeral services for Diane Lynn Batterson, age 34, of LeMars, Iowa will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, January 22 at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars. Funeral services will also take place at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 23, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Oelwein, Iowa. Burial will follow at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Oelwein, Iowa.

Diane Lynn, daughter of Dennis and Jeanne (Moeller) Muchow, was born at the Community Hospital in Postville, Iowa on September 18, 1969. Diane attended high school at Oelwein, Iowa where she participated in band, drama and the golf team. She graduated in May 1988. She attended Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Iowa where she earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in biochemistry, molecular biology and biology. On September 15, 1990 Diane married James Batterson at the Zion Lutheran Church in Oelwein, Iowa. They made their home in Oelwein while Diane finished her college education. After graduating from college, they lived in Ottumwa, Iowa before moving to LeMars, Iowa in 1992. She was the microbiology laboratory supervisor at the Well's Dairy Incorporated. In 2002 the LeMars Area Chamber of Commerce honored her by naming her Boss of the Quarter. She served as the co-chairman of Relay For Life, Plymouth County. She enjoyed crafting, knitting, gardening, and loved to travel. She especially enjoyed designing and creating decor for her home. She was a very organized person who was always present and could handle any situation placed before her.

Diane Lynn Batterson died Monday, January 19, 2004 at the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa after having a pulmonary embolism. She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Guy "Soup" Muchow and Les Moeller, and her father-in-law, Walter J. Batterson.

Diane is survived by her husband, James of LeMars, Iowa; her mother Jeanne Muchow of Henderson, Nevada and her father, Dennis Muchow of West Union, Iowa; her maternal grandmother, Helen Moeller of Strawberry Point, Iowa and Ruby Muchow of West Union, Iowa and her mother-in-law, Lillian Batterson of Oelwein, Iowa; maternal aunts and uncles, Barb (Terry) Phelps of Winfield, Iowa, Pat (Ben) Hunsberger, of Elgin, Iowa, Jim (Alice) Moeller of Stanley, Iowa, Larry (Vicki) Moeller of Sacramento, California, JoAnne (Bill) Anderson of Montpelier, North Dakota; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Laurie (Batterson) and Steven Bunn of Oelwein, Iowa, Brian (Becky) Batterson of Oelwein, Iowa, Jeffrey Batterson of Denver, Iowa, Christine (Batterson) and Mark Cheli of Frederick, Maryland; nieces Heather Brown, Kassandra Batterson, Jade Bunn, Catherine Cheli, and nephews, Brandon Batterson, Jackson Brown, Beau Batterson, and Joey Cheli in addition to many cousins.
