Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Funeral services for Alton J. Staff, age 77, were held Thursday, December 27, 1990 in the Clermont Funeral Chapel, Clermont, Iowa. Rev. Donald Loots officiated. Schutte Funeral Service of Clermont, Iowa was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in God's Acres Cemetery at Clermont, Iowa. Casket bearers were his grandchildren, Eric Staff, Matthew Staff, Kory Staff, Michael Staff, Jane Staff, and Mark Staff. Honorary casket bearers were Howard Olson, John Indahl, Tilpher Bilden, and Joe Wander.
Alton James Staff, son of Albert and Clara (Moan) Staff, was born April 2, 1913 at LaCrosse, Wisconsin. He was baptized into the Lutheran faith as an infant. He attended a rural school near West Salem, Wiscoinsin. On October 18, 1939 he married Lila Selvina Larson at the Lutheran Parsonage in Clermont, Iowa. They had two sons. They farmed in the Castalia, Iowa and Clermont, Iowa areas. The lived in Elgin, Iowa for several years and then moved to Clermont, Iowa. Alton had been employed as a truck driver and a feed salesman. He had operated a backhoe on construction projects. For several years he was a salesman for the Delano Monument Company. He was a member of the West Clermont Lutheran Church in Clermont, Iowa.
Alton James Staff died Saturday morning, December 22, 1990 at the Palmer Lutheran Health Center at West Union, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Lila of Clermont, Iowa; 2 sons, Kenneth Staff and Curtis Staff, both of Monona, Iowa; 6 grandchildren; a half brother, Adolph Monson of North Attleboro, Massachusetts; 3 half sisters, Helen Adams of Clermont, Iowa, Myrtle (Howard) Olson and Charlotte (John) Indahl, both of West Salem, Wisconsin, and 6 nieces and nephews.
