Funeral services for Eleanor Anderson were held Monday, January 4 at 11:00 a.m. in the West Clermont Lutheran Church at Clermont, Iowa. Rev. Dave L. Lenth of Castalia, Iowa officiated. Schutte Funeral Service of Clermont, Iowa was in charge of the arrangements. Casket bearers were Kerry Jacobson, Alan Tinderholt, Leon Griebenow, Lowell Lyngaas, Robert Swenson, Chris Swenson, Leon Dibble, and Jim Hanson. Honorary casket bearers were Albert Tinderholt, Mervin Reierson, and Reuben Steffens.

Eleanor Gertrude, daughter of Engebert and Anna (Olson) Lyngaas, was born October 26, 1917 near Clermont, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed in the East Clermont Lutheran Church. Eleanor attended the Grand Meadow Country School #8 and graduated from the Clermont High School. On August 25, 1939 she was married to Vernon Anderson by Rev. Ramsey at the East Clermont Lutheran Church. They were the parents of two daughters. They farmed north of Clermont until November 1, 1982 when they moved to their present home in Clermont, Iowa. For 81 years Eleanor touched the lives of everyone around her with a never-empty cookie jar, a pot of coffee always brewing, lending a helping hand before the request was made, giving the lesson at the ladies circle, teaching Sunday School for many years, being a life-long member of the Woodland Study Club, quilting for LWR, having a smile for those who stopped by and touching the lives of many children with her tireless babysitting. This gentle and caring lady was an inspiration to her family and a role model for the community. She was a member of the West Clermont Lutheran church and the Women of the ELCA.

Eleanor passed away December 30, 1998 in Allen Memorial Hospital at Waterloo, Iowa. She had reached the age of 81 years, two months, and four days. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Vernon, who died February 10, 1993; 4 sisters, Gudrun Osmundson, Alice Nygaard, Leona Griebenow, and Thelma Tinderholt; and 2 brothers, Helmer Lyngaas, and Ewald Lyngaas.

She is survived by her 2 daughters, Barbara (Merlin) Chapman of Dike, Iowa, and Marlene (George) Tullis of Lenexa, Kansas; 5 grandchildren, Scott (Michelle) Chapman, Sarah (Brett) Thorne, Steven (Brenda) Chapman, Stacey (Randy) Bowen and David Tullis; and 4 great-grandchildren, Lauren Chapman, Brandon Chapman, Chase Chapman, and Brien Thorne.
