Leslie West

Leslie G. West, 86, of Hawkeye died Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at his home in Mission, TX. Graveside committal services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 3 at the Alpha Cemetery, Hawkeye. Following the committal service, a Celebration of Life gathering will be held at the Hawkeye Community Hall, Hawkeye. Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Sumner is assisting the family.
Leslie George West was born July 6, 1924 near Fredericksburg to Daniel E. and Leona (Rasmussen) West. He spent most of his adult working life in farming and sales in the Midwest. He was the father of eight children from two families.
Leslie was married to Glee Armstrong and fathered five children: Mary Ann (Gary) Anderson of Mason City; Jane (Marshall) Archibeque of Delta, CO, who died in 2005; Leslie (Joe and Ruth) West and Michael (Theresa) West, both of New Waverly, TX; and Lila (Lance) McCracken of Lancaster, WI.
December 17, 1960, Les married Doris Jane Buenzow. They recently celebrated their 50th anniversary in the company of friends and their three sons, James West of Harvard, IL, David (Jill) West of North Liberty, and John (Hope Woods) West of Randalia. Les was a grandfather to 21 and had numerous great-grandchildren.
During his life, Leslie enjoyed hunting, fishing, and his vegetable garden. His experience and advice will be missed. Preceding him in death were his parents; a daughter, Jane; and a sister, Wanda.
Les is survived by his wife, Doris West; seven children and their families; and a sister, Dorothy Buege of Waukon.
