1928-1994
Myron B. Baum, 66, of Oelwein, died Friday, Nov. 18, at Mercy Hospital, Oelwein, after a lengthy illness. Survivors include his wife Betty (nee Luther); four daughters, Amy Baum and Jennifer Benhoff, both of Iowa City, Sarah Baum of Denver, CO. and Rebecca McLeish of Seattle; three sons, Ethan Baum of Des Moines, Mark McLeish of Iowa City and Christopher McLeish, Cleveland, OH; nine grandchildren; a brother David of Waterloo and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by both parents and an infant daughter.
Myron Bernard Baum was born July 10, 1928 in Independence, Iowa, to Ronald and Elsie (Byvank) Baum. He entered the military in 1946 serving two years in Japan. He was called back into the service in 1948 and served until 1951. After the service he attended Grinnell College and the University of Iowa where he received his degree.
Myron owned and operated Baum's Clothing for 34 years, retiring in September, 1990. He was a past president of the Oelwein Chamber of Commerce and a charter member of the Oelwein Investor's Club.
Services were held at Hintz-Geilenfeld Funeral Home, Oelwein, with burial in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Hazelton.(Obituary from the Waterloo Courier and the funeral card.)
