Esther M. Pendleton, born September 11th, 1812, in the Province of New Brunswick, parish of West Isles, county of Charlotte, died February 16, 1881. She was married to Charles T. Pendleton in 1831. They resided in Eastport, Maine for some time, moving to Fayette county in 1851, settling near the residence of L. Dutton in West Union township. From there they moved to their present residence, in Pleasant Valley township. They were received into the church of the United Brethren in Christ by letter from the Freewill Baptist church, of which they were members in their native place, in about the year 1858, from which time she has ever lived a consistent member. She was the mother of eleven children, four dying in infancy. Seven of them grew to manhood and womanhood, but three of them are now dead, two being slain on the battlefield, and one died at her home in Chickasaw county. Four were with her in her last hours. Although she suffered very much in her last sickness, she bore it all with Christian fortitude, frequently saying, "O Saviour! Take me quickly." Mrs. Pendleton always saw things on the bright side, carrying sunshine wherever she went, especially among the children, with whom she was a favorite. She was beloved by young and old, and all sympathize with the bereved husband and children in their great loss.
