Emeline Davis was born in Newport,
R I., Dec. 1849, and died in Oelwein,
Iowa, Dec. 28. 1901, aged 52 years and
18 days. In 1861 she came to Colesburg,
Iowa, with her parents. Was
married to Rufus Gates May 27, 1867.
Since her marriage she has resided in
Fayette county, nine years in Fayette,
twenty years on a farm near Oelwein,
three years in West Union and the
last year and a half in Oelwein.
She leaves a husband, four sons and
one daughter, one daughter having
died four years ago. She hag not been
well for some time but was patient and
enduring to the end. She was a kind
and loving mother and will be sadly
missed by her husband and children.
