The last services for Ann Burch
Arthur occurred Sunday at 3 p- m.
from the Oelwein Baptist church,
Rev. E. L. True officiating. It was
attended by. a large concourse of
relatives and friends.
Ann Burch was born in Indiana,
July 2. 1826. and she was therefore
eighty-one years, nine months and
twenty-three days of age at the time
of her death in this city, April 18.
1908. In early years she united with
the Baptist church, and was a faithful
christian to the end of her life, reading
and marking the scriptures
through a long life of over four score
years. When twenty-one years of age
she was united in marriage to Martin
Arthur who preceded her in death
1888. They moved from Indiana
to Iowa in 1865. ' She was the mother
of ten children, of whom four survive
to mourn her loss. W. D. Arthur, of
Clarion. J. N. Arthur, of Arkansas,
and Mesdames J. Stockwell and
J. H. Fitch of this city, also the following
brothers and sisters. John Burch, New
Hampton, Davis Burch, N. S. Burch,
Nebraska, Jonathan Burch. Kansas,
George Burch, Washington, Mrs.
Nichols, Oregon Mrs. Shipp, Colorado,
and Mrs. Charles Brown, of Oelwein.
She was greatly beloved for her
sweet disposition, and always gave
encouraging advice and council to
the young. The esteem in which she
was held was shown by the beautiful
floral offerings. Her life was a model
of a christian mother, and full of
years she has been called into the
heavenly mansion to receive her reward
