The last services for P. B. Harford,
an aged resident of Oelwein, were
held from the home Tuesday afternoon
at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev.
A. H. Nickell. A large number of
relatives and friends were present.
The floral offerings were bcaiutiful
and at the conclusion of the ceremony
the body was borne to the new
cemetery for interment.
P. B. Harford was born in Orange
county, New York, February 19th,
1832 and passed away at his home in
Oelwein on March 21, 1914, aged
eighty-two years, one month and two
days. He came west in an early day
and located near Dubuque where he
was united in marriage in 1856 to
Miss Elizabeth Lyons. They were the
parents of three children, F. B. Harford,
of Monticello, and W. R. Harford
and Mrs. Hattie Jenkins, of
Hopkinton. The daughter was at his
bedside in his last hours. The wife
and mother died in 1864 and on December
2, 1868, he was married to
Miss Fanny Ridler, who survives him.
They came to this locality a year
later and to them were born six children—
F. A. and H. G. Harford and
Mrs. C. W. Schuh, of this city, Mrs.
J. M. Moore, of Madison, S. D., Mrs.
W. H. Brown, of Minneapolis, Minn.,
and Mrs. E. P. Halver, who died in
this city two years ago.
Mr. Harford was a kind husband, a
loving father and a good neighbor.
He had been a resident of this locality
for nearly a half century and was
well and favorably known to a large
circle of friends. It was some years
after his settling here before Oelwein
was on the map, and he was one of
the pioneers of the city. He had been
in good health for one of his advanced
years up to the past few month,
and at the last the end came peacefully.
Sympathy is expressed to the
family in their sorrow.Oelwein Register - 1 April 1914
