Benjamin B. Bonham 1842-1928 Civil War Veteran

BONHAM, GREENLEY, CHALICE, THEILMAN

Benjamin B. Bonham, born March
31, 1842. died at the home of his dauhter,
Mrs. F. C. Greenley at Des
Moines, October 27. The body was
brought to his old home in Oelwein
and this morning at 10:30 at the
Grace Methodist church the funeral
services were conducted by-Rev. A. W.
Henke. The burial was beside his
wife in Woodlawn cemetery. Mr.
Bonham farmed in this vicinity a
number of years ago until retiring
about 1912 and. moving to Oelwein.
After the death of his wife he entered
the soldiers home at Marshalltown
and was making that his home up to
the time of his death. About two
weeks ago he went to Des Moines to
visit his daughter and her husband,
Mr. and Mrs. F. C. Greenley and
while there was taken ill and died
Saturday. He enlisted in the Civil
War in -Co. E 16th U. .S. Infantry in
1861. He is survived by ten children,
six sons and four daughters: Those
who were able to be present were
Mr. and Mrs. F. C. Greenley and two
daughters Dorothy and Eva. of Des
Moines. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Chalice of
Minneapolis, Mr. and Mrs. Theo.
Theilman of Minneapolis and Mr. and
Mrs. Ben Bonham Jr, of Creston.
