- Frank D. Stimson, son of Joseph and Mary Stimson,
was born June 11, 1846 in Cambridgeshire, England.
He was one of a family of eleven children, all of whom
preceded him in death excepting one sister, residing
in Ohio. At the age of five years he came to America
with his parents locating in Ohio.
- At the age of 17 when the times were calling out the
patriotism of the nation Frank was one of the patriots
and together with three of his brothers entered the
army of the Civil War.
- On Sept 28, 1871 he was united in marriage with
Emma Wharram who for over 53 years through joys and
sorrows they walked together through life.
- In the year of 1882 they came to Iowa locating in
Buchanan county and since 1893 have resided in
Stanley which has been his home and where he died
March 15, 1924, age 77 years, 9 months and 2 days.
Mr. and Mrs. Stimson were the parents of six sons,
George, Ralph, Edward, Nelson, Arthur and James of
which George and James preceded their father in death.
- Besides his beloved wife he leaves Edward and Arthur
of Saskatchawan, Canada and Nelson of Stanley
together with 15 grandchildren and one sister to mourn
the loss of a devoted husband and loving father.
- The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at
the Union Church, Rev. Foote of Hazleton officiating.
Interment was made in Stanley cemetery.Oelwein Daily Register - 18 March 1924
