TUESDAY MORNINGWas Born in Vermont, and Had
Been A Resident of This Section
for Fifty-two Years.William Dana, well known in this
city and vicinity for many years,
passed away at his rooms in this city
at 1:20 Tuesday morning, after a few
days illness. He had been not out on the
streets within a few days, and it was
not generally known that he was ill.
It is learned that he became overheated
one day last week and drank too
much cold water, inducing a trouble
that in connection with his age caused
his death.
William Dana was born in Vermont
August 23. 1830, and would therefore
have been seventy-seven years of age
had he lived till the twenty-third of
the present month. In 1855 he came
west and located at Buffalo Grove, and
has been a resident of that place and
this section of Iowa for the past fifty-
two years. He was of genial disposition,
and was an active man up to the last,
being employed on the streets for the
past two or three years.
Before coming west he was united in
marriage to Miss Elizabeth Watson,
and to this union were born six children,
five sons and a daughter. Of
these children he is survived by three
sons and a daughter—A. W. Dana of
Britt, A. E. Dana of Dubuque,
Charles Dana of Waukon, and Mrs.
Wyman Luther of this city. His wife
died in 1872 and is buried at Aurora.
The last services occur Wednesday at
Aurora, and he will be laid at rest by
the side of Mrs. Dana. Sympathy is
expressed to the sons and daughter in
the loss they have sustained, and the
four will be present at the last services.
