John Mishler was born in Canton
Berne, Switzerland, August 22,1824,
and died at his home in Lake City,
May 22, 1904, at the age of 79 years
and 9 months. He was married to
Mary Bluehr in l846. Fourteen children
were born to them, ten of whom
are living, Mrs. Jacob Beauman,
Mrs. J. M. Fickle and Lewis Mishler
of Lake City, John Mishler, of
Rockford, Ill., Wm., Fred, Henry
and Samuel and Mrs. Joseph Conner
of West Union, Iowa, and George
Mishler, of Fedora, S. D.
Mr. Mishler came to the United
States in 1858, to Ohio, then to
Pensylvania, then to Fayette county,
Iowa, in 1862. His first wife died
March 16, 1881. He then moved to
Calhoun county, Iowa, where he was
married to Mrs. Mary J. Smith, Nov.
3, 1881. He was from early boyhood
a member of the German Lutheran
church. He knew he was
about to launch into the larger life
and the preparation for this he had
not neglected. Much of the time
during the period of suffering his
mind was surprisingly clear, and he
conversed with all the members of
the family. He could commend
them to the care of the Heavenly
Father whom he served. He gave a
clear testimony of his trust in Jesus
and exhorted his friends to prepare
for death.
The funeral services were conducted
at the Methodist ohurch Tuesday
morning at ten o'clock by Rev. J. T.
Lee, assisted by Rev. J . F. Cowlng
and Rev. Thos. Cloud. The remains
were interred in Lake City cemetery.

Mr. and Mrs. Mishler visited relatives
and friends in this vicinity
last fall after an absence of 22 years
and met many of their old friends
and neighbors who Will be pained to
