William Barr 1845-1915 Civil War Veteran

William Barr was born at Larhall,
Scotland, April 28, 1845 and died at
his home in Scott Township, Sept. 9,
1915 after a short illness of only a few
days at the age of 70 years, 4 months
and 12 days.
He came to the United States when
he was eight years old and with his
parents settled in Mercer county,
Pennsylvania, where he lived until
1858 when he came to Fayette county
Iowa where he has since made hie
home with the exception of a short
time spent in South Dakota and in
Kansas.
In 1864 he enlisted in Company F
Ninth Iowa Infantry and served to the
close of the war when he returned to
Fayette county. On January 8, 1882 he
was united in marriage to Agnes Gray
and to this union were born two children,
William and John. He leaves to
mourn his loss his wife and two sons,
William who is at home and John
who lives on a farm near the parental
home, also two grandchildren, one
sister, Mrs. Ella Hindle who lives near
Oelwein, three brothers, James Barr
of Sierra Madre, Cal., Thomas Barr
who lives near Fayette and George H.
Barr of Redfield, S. D. He was a kind
and loving father and husband, who
leaves beside his family many friends
to mourn his death.
