Andrew Jackson Miller was born in South Wales,
Erie County, New York February 13, 1834 and died
at the family home in Oelwein, March 5, 1918.
He resided in New York state until he was twenty
years of age. Then came west, first locating in
Mitchell Co., Iowa in 1854, thence to Boone Co.,Ill.
and in 1861 returned to Iowa and located on a
farm 4.5 miles northeast of Oelwein, where he
resided until 1903. At that time he sold his farms
and retired, having since lived in Oelwein.
In the year 18__ he was united in marriage to
Marthaetta Bennett. To this union six children were
born, Mrs. W. H. Bush, Nellie, Lucile and Grant who
have preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn his
departure, his widow, two daughters, Mrs. J. E. Potts
of Maynard and Mrs. Frank C. Whitney of St. Paul, also
three grandsons, Joe and Frank Potts and Laurel S.
Bush who has lived with his grandparents since infancy.
One sister, Mrs. Julia Mitchell of Delhi, New York is the
only survivor of a family of nine children.
He found great pleasure as a foster father, in
rearing two boys, Mr. Wheeler Wilson whose address is
unknown and Joseph Schoenberner of Junction City,
Kansas, they having made their home with him for many
years. Mr. Schoenberner came from his Kansas home
to be present at the funeral.
The last services of love and respect were held at his late
residence in Oelwein on Thursday afternoon, March 8th, 1918.
He was taken to cemetery where he was laid beside the children
