Valentine Wander was born in Lennheim, Alsace,
France (now part of Germany) March 17, 1954. He
came to this country in early life and passed
remaining years in Iowa. He died at his home in
Oelwein May 1, 1910, making him at the time of his
death, fifty-six years, one month and thirteen days
of age. He had been for the past two years a
constant sufferer from tuberculosis, and for the
last two months he was confined to his bed. He leaves
to mourn his loss a wife, two daughters and a son---
Mrs. A. J. Roberts, Ida, Mae and Edward, also one
brother, George Wander of Clermont. Four children
have preceded him to the future life. He had often
expressed himself as being anxious to go to the home
beyond and when the summons came Sunday morning
he welcomed it and peacefully crossed the river. He
was a member of the German Evangelical church and
his life had been passed in accordance with its rules.
The last services were conducted in this city Tuesday
forenoon after which the remains were taken to his
former home, Elgin where interment occurred.Oelwein Register - 3 May 1910
