OELWEIN - Funeral services for Duane M. Lamphier will be 11 a.m.,
Tuesday, May 20, at the Hintz-Geilenfeld Funeral Home, Oelwein, with
the Rev. Dale Rausch officiating. B urial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery,
Oelwein.
Mr. Lamphier, 54, died at his home Saturday
evening, May 17,1997, after a lengthy illness.
He was born March 17,1943, in rural Wadena, the
son of Orville and Doris (Tripp) Lamphier. He graduated
from Volga High School in 1961. On Sept. 12,
1969, he married Marjorie L. Boies in Manchester.
Mr. Lamphier had been an auto mechanic, specializing
in carburetor and automatic transmission repair.
He had previously worked at the Independence Chevrolet
garage, as service manager in the Chevrolet
garage in Central City, at Oelwein Body, Montgomery Wards, Jerry
Voss Chevrolet, and a partnership with Ron Steffen at the Texaco station,
all in Oelwein. Failing eye sight from diabetes forced him to retire in the
1980s. His band, 'Duane and the Country Squires,' is well-known
throughout Northeast Iowa.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie; four sons, Todd (Charlotte),
Troy and Trent, all of Oelwein, and Tracy of Kansas City, Mo.; a stepdaughter
Laura Lee (David) Bell of Oelwein; five grandchildren; his
parents, Orville and Doris Lamphier of Wadena; two sisters, Bemadine
(Larry) Hulbert of Show Low, Ariz., and Rhonda (Doug) Aylsworth of
Wadena; and two brothers, Lowell (Lyla), and Steven, both of Wadena.
