We noted in our last issue the serious
illness of Mrs. M. E. Lawrence,
and the fears then entertained by
loved ones, that she might not recover,
were well founded, as on Sunday
her spirit took its flight to the realms
of endless day, after only a very brief
illness. Her maiden name was Miss
Lucy A. Stark, and she was born in
Fulton county, New York, on January
26, 1840, being at the time of her
death nearly fifty-six years of age.
She lived at the place of her birth until
her seventeenth year, when she
moved with her parents to Michigan.
She was married September 16th,
1855, to M. E. Lawrence, with whom
she journeyed through life forty-two
years. Unto them were born seven
children; two died in infancy and
Georgie died in his 14th year. Edwin,
Francis, James and Mrs. Anna Steggall,
together with the husband still
survive her. The funeral services
were held in the Presbyterian church
in Oelweiu Tuesday afternoon, being
conducted by the pastor, Rev. Conybeare,
and she was laid to rest in the
cemetery here. She has been a resident
of this city for many years, and
the attendance at the funeral services
was large. The surviving members
of the family extend cordial thanks to
neighbors and friends for sympathy
and aid extended to them in the severe
hour of bereavement and trial.
