George R. Stark 1844-1920 Civil War Veteran

George R. Stark was born in Genneseo
county, New York, June 10, 1844
and passed away at his home In
Oelwein, February 7, 1920. He moved
to Madison, Wisconsin before the civil
war and enlisted in Company B.
49th Reg. Wisconsin volunteers and
served the last two years of the war.
In 1863 he was united in marriage to
Miss Caroline Hall and to this union
there was born one daughter, Mrs.
Mae Fitzpatrick, of Chicago, who
with the wife and mother is left to
mourn his loss. His daughter was at
the bedside in the closing hours.
The family came to Oelwein about
forty-five years ago. and have resided
here ever since. He was a hard working
man up to October 4, 1915 when
he suffered a paralytic stroke and
he has been an invalid cared for by
his devoted wife. He always took
great interest in the G. A. R. Post,
of which he was an active member
up to the time jot his illness and it
was a pleasure for him to be visited
by his comrades.
The last service was held from the
home Monday, February 9, at 10:00
a. m., conducted by Fr. Dougherty.
Members of the; G. A. R. acted as
pall bearers and there was a large
delegation of the ladies of the W. R.C.
in attendance and the ritualistic
ceremony given. Interment in the old
cemetery by the side of his mother.
Sincere regret is expressed at the
passing of this well known, respected
