W. R. Bell 1840-1900 Civil War Veteran

W. R. Bell, residing south-west of
the city, was stricken with apoplexy
Monday morning and died in less than
twenty-four hours, having been unconscious
most of the time. He came
here from Wisconsin in 1867, and located
in 1870 on the farm where he
died. He was married twice, his first
wife dying some years ago. Two
daughters and one son were born to
this union, Mrs. Ida Rouse, Mrs. G. M.
Jones and Wm. A. Bell. The first
and last named died during the past
ten years of consumption. Mrs. G. M.
Jones resides near Hawkeye. Two
sons, aged seven and ten respectively
are the fruits of his second marriage.
Mr. Bell was an old and respected citizen
of this locality, and was sixty years
of age. He was, a brave defender of
his country in 1861-65. He had been
feeling as well as usual and his short
illness and death was wholly unexpected.
The funeral will occur Thursday.
The procession will leave the home at
9 a. m. and services will be held at the
Baptist church of which Mr. Bell was
a member. Rev. F. E. Day will conduct
the services which will be under
the auspices of the G. A. R.
