John W, Corkery 1860 - 1900

CORKERY, GALLAGHER, HAMLIN, WELCH, DOUGHTERY

Died in this city at the home of his sister, Mrs. Ed
Gallagher, Thursday evening, John W. Corkery aged
40 years. He had been in failing health for the past
year and his death was not unexpected. He was
born on Cape Cod, Massachusetts in 1860 and when
a child of six years accompanied his parents to
Wisconsin. In 1875 they came to Oelwein where he
has since resided. He was well known in this city and
his death is mourned by relatives and friends. He was
a faithful member of the Catholic church and the
funeral services were held in that church Monday,
conducted by Father O'Connor. Besides his sister, Mrs.
Gallagher and brother D. T. Corkery of this city the
deceased had a sister, Mrs. Will Hamlin in Nebraska.
Those in attendance at the funeral from abroad were
M. J. Welch and wife of Danville, Illinois, Mr. Albert
Doughtery and wife of Independence and Mrs. Mary
Corkery also of Independence. The remains were
interred in the Catholic cemetery.
