Funeral services for Roy Campbell Burrett were held on July 24, 1985 at the Zion Lutheran Church in West Union, Iowa with Pastor Vic Baderschneider officiating. Burnham-Wood Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the West Union, Iowa Cemetery. Pallbearers were James Nesvik, Meryl Hokel, Dale Kelly, Rupert Caballero, Loren Bush, LeRoy Newton, and Dale Ellis.

Roy Campbell Burrett, son of James and Mary (Campbell) Burrett, was born August 27, 1919, in West Union, Iowa. He became a child of God through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism in May of 1920 at the United Methodist Church of West Union, Iowa. Following instruction he confirmed his faith in Jesus Christ in 1932 at the United Methodist Church. In May 1937 he graduated from the West Union High School.

He served his country as an army engineer, entering in June of 1941. He attained the rank of staff sergeant. He served in the Alaska Defense Command, the European Theater and the Pacific Theater during World War II. In December of 1945 he was honorably discharged. On December 18, 1946, he was united in marriage to Connie Halverson in Calmar, Iowa. This union was blessed with the birth of a daughter. Roy and Connie have made their home in Calmar, Arlington, and since 1976 in West Union, Iowa. Roy had been employed by Interstate Power Company. He retired in 1981 after 42 years of service with this utility company.

He has been a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church in West Union since 1976. Prior to that he was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Arlington and the United Methodist Church of West Union. He was also a member of the American Legion and Masonic Lodge #69, both in West Union and the J.O.Y Friendship Group of Zion Lutheran Church.

Roy suddenly became ill last Saturday. He was hospitalized in St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota where he died on Sunday July 21, 1985, at the age of 65 years, 10 months, and 24 days. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, and his twin sister.

He is survived by his wife Connie; a daughter Diane Weston and son-in-law, Ken Weston, 2 grandsons Todd and John and 2 granddaughters, Amy and Beth, all of Brillion, Wisconsin; 4 sisters, Mrs. Phil (Alice) Gaines of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Mrs. Frank (Clarice) Medd of Waconia, Minnesota, Mrs. Ed (Edna) Klingman of Elgin, Iowa and Mrs. Keith (Burl) Granger of Kingman, Arizona; nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
