Services for Roy Swenson were held June 24, at 10:30 a.m. at the West Clermont Lutheran Church. The Rev. David Johnson officiated. Schutte Funeral Service of Postville, Iowa was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in God's Acres Cemetery, Clermont, Iowa. The special music was provided by his granddaughters, organists, Sara Appelman and Kristin Berg, flutist, Amy Appelman, and vocalists, Laurie Biedermann, Linda Martin, and Ann Rowland. The casket bearers were his grandsons, Mark Nelson, Richard Swenson, Marti Swenson, Shannon Swenson, David Humphrey, Brian Swenson, Joel Berg, and Chris Swenson.

Roy William Swenson was the son of Swen and Anna (Jauert) Swenson. He was born January 13, 1897 in Clayton County, Iowa. He died June 21, 1986 in Community Memorial Hospital at Postville, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at the East Clermont Lutheran Church. He was graduated from Postville High School in 1915 and served in the U.S. Navy during World War I. On September 3, 1929 he married Viola Anderson at the First Lutheran Church in Decorah, Iowa. They had 7 children. They farmed in the Clermont, Iowa area all of their lives. He was a member of the West Clermont Lutheran Church, serving on the Church Council. He had been a member of the Board of Directors of the Clermont, Elgin, and Maquoketa Valley Creameries and the Scenic Ridge Telephone Company. He was also a member of the American Legion, Sheehan-Olson Post No. 375 of Clermont, Iowa. He had served as its Commander.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Viola, who died in 1975, a brother, who died in infancy and a brother Orvie Swenson.

Surviving are 2 sons, LaVerne Swenson and Robert Swenson, both of Clermont, Iowa, 5 daughters: Mrs. Millard (LaVonne) Nelson, Jr., Mrs. Doug (Margie) Appelman of Clermont, Iowa, Mrs. Paul (Joann) Humphrey of Ft. Smith, Arkansas, Mrs. Roger (Carol) Berg of Elgin, Iowa and Mrs. George (Bonnie) Dennis of Omaha, Nebraska; 23 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; a brother Carman Swenson and a sister, Mrs. Oliver (Reva) Torkelson, both of Elgin, Iowa.
