HOOVER --- On Thursday, October 16, 1879, at
10 o'clock am, Mrs. Alice J. Hoover, aged 28 years,
8 months and 17 days.
Sister Hoover was the daughter of Daniel and Laura
Gates, who resided at the time of her birth near
Lowell, Oneida county, N. Y. In the fall of 1859 she
came with her parents, the family settling near
Brush Creek, which has been Sister Hoover's home
most of the time since. February 1st, 1870 she was
married to J. O. Hoover with whom she lived happily
until she left the earth home for the heavenly.
During the winter of 1876-77 she was converted
and joined the M. E. Society that was organized in
this vicinity in the spring of 1877.
Sister Hoover was taken ill with pneumonia about
the 25th of September, 1879, hemorrhage of the
lungs followed and despite the constant efforts of
physicians and friends her disease proved fatal and
on Thursday last her soul floated out to the Summer
Land of Song, of which she had sung so much in
former days and of which she had talked so much
during the last days.
The community mourns her absence, the church
sorrows over her vacant place, the home circle
grieves over its vacant chair and yet while we sorrow
God sends a rainbow of promise through the falling
tears that tells of safety and of Heaven.
