Again we come to the Valley of the
Shadow of Death and this time the
one who has passed to his rest is a
beloved husband and father, John Roe,
of Oelwein, Iowa.
He was born in Marietta, Ohio,
April 13, 1840 and until the last few
years of his life he has put forth every
effort to do his share in life's work
He was married Oct. 21, 1871 to
Miss Lucinda C. Staples, of Maynard,
Iowa. To this union three children
came to bless the home, James Henry,
Jesse Edward and Effie Lucinda and
one grand child all residing in Oelwein,
Iowa. Also six brothers and one
sister, two of which are left to mourn
his loss, the others having passed on
before him. One brother living in Louistown,
Montana and the other in Nebraska.
He bore with patience life's burdens
and was ever ready to help those
about him, thinking the best was
none too good for his loved ones. He
passed to his rest Tuesday eve, Dec.
28, 1915 aged 75 years, 8 months and
sixteen days. The last sad rites were
performed at his home by Rev. Jennison,
of Maynard, and Rev. Shaffer,
of Oelwein.
