Grace Darling (Abel) Ballard of West Union, Iowa died August 21, 1985 at the age of 70. Funeral services were held August 24 at Bethel Presbyterian Church in West Union, Iowa. The Rev. Richard Menzel conducted the 1:30 p.m. services. Burial was in the West Union, Iowa Cemetery. Burnham-Wood Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Grace Darling was born in Clayton County, Iowa on December 12, 1914 to August Carl and Mamie (Moon) Abel. She graduated from the Oelwein High School. She moved to West Union where she worked first for the Warner and Hoover Clothing Store and then for Central States Power and Light as a bookkeeper. She and Allen Ballard were married in 1942.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Kathleen in 1968, 4 brothers: Wayne Abel, Harvey Abel, Corwin Abel, and Loren Abel, and 2 sisters, Ninabell Hulbert, and Violet Behn.

She is survived by her husband, Allen; a son Randy Ballard of West Union, Iowa; a brother Donald Abel and a sister, Fern Coolidge Bixeban.
