Alice S. (Teague) Putnam 1848 - 1916

Alice S. Teague was born in Gloucestershire,
England, September 11, 1848
and came to this country with
her parents when three years of age,
the family locating in Pottsville,
Pennsylvania. When she was a young
lady they came west and were located
at Fairbank where on February 17, 1866
she was united in marriage to
Peter Putnam. In the half century following
Mr. and Mrs. Putnam have resided
in Buchanan and Fayette counties.
For a number of years they owned
and operated a farm in Oran near
Fairbank and later occupied their
farm near Hazleton, After a residence
there and in Hazleton for many
years they came to Oelwein in 1899
and this city has since been their
home. Two sons were born to the
union, one dying in infancy and the
other, Charles passing away two years
ago. A daughter, Mrs. Cora M. Brown,
is a resident of Estherville and she
was with her mother in the closing
weeks of her life.
Mrs. Putnam enjoyed her usual
health till two months ago when she
was afflicted with stomach trouble
which ended the life February 27th.
She had been a member of the Presbyterian
church for a number of years
and the last services were conducted
from the home Tuesday afternoon at
1o'clock by her pastor, Rev. Donald
Grant. Interment was in the Hazleton
cemetery by the side of the son who
died in infancy.
Beside the husband and daughter
she is survived by three brothers,
John Teague, of New Mexico, George
Teague, of Oelwein, and Fred Teague,
of Cedar Rapids, also a sister, 'Mrs.
Lydia Putnam, of Houston, Kansas.
There are also three grandchildren,
Everet and Irma Putnam and Veva
Brown, and one great grandchild.
