George Duhrkopf, youngest son of
Fred and Frederika Duhrkopf was
born in Fremont township, near Sumner,
Iowa, and grew to manhood in
this vicinity. He gave his heart to
God in his early youth and joined the
Union Evangelical church of which
he remained a member until about four
years ago when he became a member
of the Methodist Episcopal church of
Montebello, Cal.
He was joined in holy matrimony to
Miss Mable Moulton of Randalia by
Rev. Sassman on January 2nd, 1907.
This union was blessed with three
children; Evelyn, and twins, Norville
and Phylis.
He was very ill twice with pneumonia
from which he never fully recovered.
Heeding the doctor's advice
he, with his family, went west seeking
better health, first to Idaho, later to
different points of California.
He had great interest in his family
and will be greatly missed by his
loved ones. He was of a kind hearted
disposition and won the friendship of
all who formed his acquaintance.
Everything that human skill and
love could do was done but without
avail. After a lingering illness of tuberculosis
which he bore with great
patience and perfect resignation to
God he passed to Eternal Rest on
April 22nd, 1918 at Rosamond, Cal., at
the age of 33 years, 6 months and 15
days.
He was preceeded in death by his
father and one brother. He is survived
his beloved wife and children
a sorrowing mother, 2 sisters Mrs. M.
J. Messerer and Mrs. Sam Leyh four
brothers, Earnest, Will and Albert
all of Sumner and Frank of Ritzville,
Wash.
His remains were brought to Sumner
and funeral services were held
at Union where a large number of
his friends had gathered to pay their
last tribute of respect.
