William Webster, fourth child of William and Mary Ann
Ridler was born July 6, 1856 at Genesee Co., NY.
When a lad of eight years he came with his parents
and older sisters to Iowa, locating in the vicinity of
the old home farm 2 miles southwest of Oelwein
where he has lived all his life excepting a few years
spent in the Dakotas.

The Ridler family being pioneers, have had their
part in the progress and upbuilding of the community,
their first home was the little log cabin. The call to
arms in the Civil War found the father in service
there.

Mr. Ridler was converted in the Billy Sunday meetings
thirty four years ago and united with the Christian
church of this place. He was united in marriage with
Miss Lina Bennett September 8, 1880. To this union
was born one daughter, Leona Genevieve, now Mrs. Bert
Kiel. Two years ago last September, Mr. Ridler suffered
a stroke of paralysis. From this he partially recovered
but has been in failing health ever since. All that
loving hands and tender care could do to alleviate his
suffering was done but in the early hours of the morning,
November 25th he passed to his reward.

Those left to mourn his passing are his devoted wife,
the daughter, a niece, Mrs. Ivan Hanson who was raised
in the home like an own daughter, three grandsons, Marvin,
Alvin and Calvin Kiel, one brother, F. J. Ridler, a sister, Mrs.
Josephine Kenniston, all of Oelwein and a sister Mrs. Jennie
Knight of Tulsa, Oklahoma, besides a host of other
relatives and friends.

Two sister, Mrs. Fanny Hartford and Mrs. Emma Teague
preceded him in death.

The funeral service was held Sunday afternoon at the
Church of Christ. Burial was made at Woodlawn cemetery.
