Mr. William Ridler died at his home
in Jefferson township, Monday, January
20th, 1890, at 1 o'clock p. m., of
heart disease, after a lingering illness
several weeks. Though not unexected
the death of this honored and respected
pioneer settler casts a shadow
of sorrow over the entire community.
He was a good man, whose sincere
and kindly nature, honesty of purpose
and straight forwardness in all the
walks of life have won him the highest
esteem, and by whose death the community
has suffered a great loss. William Ridler
was born in England in 1826 and came to
New York in 1849. In 1861 he enlisted in
the 140th NY Infantry and served honorably
in the defense of his country till the close
of the war. He came to Iowa in 1866 and
settled and remained on the farm which he
owned at his death. A wife and six children,
four daughters and two sons remain to
lament the departure of a faithful husband
and loving parent. The funeral was held
Tuesday at 2 pm from the Baptist Church,
Rev. Wing of West Union, conducting the
services.
