Alpha Gardner died suddenly Sunday
afternoon at the home of his son
W. V. Gardner, in Grand View. Deceased
was born in Jefferson Co. N. Y.,
Jan. 22, 1808, had been married 73
years, and was the father of 13 children.
For the past year and a half he
has resided with his son in Oelwein
and for a man of such extreme age was
remarkably well preserved, retaining
bis sight, hearing and mind to the
last.
On Wednesday of last week he walked
down town and transacted business
at one of the banks.
A brief service was conducted at the
residence of W. V. Gardner Monday
afternoon by Rev. James M. Wilson of
the Presbyterian church and Tuesday
morning the body was taken to
St. Paul for burial in Forest Cemetery.
